#19 Web 2.0 tools

First I looked at biblio.com but it was similar to Barnes & Noble in purpose. I've been able to find bookes through the Barnes & Noble used books sites quite easily.

Then I viewed oodle and also craigslist and was checking for Toyotas under $5000. Craigslist had a bigger and better selections than oodle.

I think people will choose to post their items to sell on the most used websites like ebay and craigslist. The others will eventually melt into obscurity.

As far as library use, if it has to do with searching and finding, it's got a place in the library, now that the computer has taken over the world.

#18 Google docs

I opened Google docs and found that my daughter had typed an essay in it that she wanted me read back in the spring, which means she obviously knows how to use it.

I created my own spreadsheet just to get some practice and added two people as collaborators. I realize I need to know more about working with spreadsheets too. I also opened the Trash and deleted several items in it that others had put there, like the calendar my son's friend had made of their itinerary for their Europe trip this past summer. It's all very interesting, like walking into (and waking up in) a new world.

I can see a definite use for this, for things you want other people to view, as it would be easier to use than attachments to an email, but also for looking them up yourself when you're not at your own computer.

Now I need to learn how to manage my blog so I can put things in number order...

#16 Wiki

I had skipped commenting on this one and did #17 first because they seemed to go together. But I went back because I have a lot of Thing nos. to fill in. And I still do have to comment on my Wiki findings. I enjoyed looking at the book lovers wiki to see what people recommended and why. Wikis are good ideas. Not sure how one would go about finding which wikis one wants except to google them.

#15 Library 2.0

I have to admit, Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 are concepts too vague for me to comprehend., no matter how much I read about it, it's not concrete enough for me. I guess they are ways to make librarianship more effective on the Internet, and to reach more patrons more efficiently, as more and more people are using computers. Back in the 70's, the idea of libraries actually using a computer to catalog was extremely novel. Now, using Web 2.0/Library 2.0 is just a matter of course. Libraries have to keep up with the rapid pace of the computer world, or we'll be out of the modern day loop.

#14 Twitter

I signed up in Twitter, as told to in this exercise, but am not sure how to go about finding anything. Also, haven't figured out how to put in a picture, which everyone else on it seems to have already. It is fascinating to see what's in it, but not sure I have a lot of use for it right now. As its popularity grows, I probably will. Right now only one person I know is on it.

#12 Libraries using social tools

All these social tools available to everyone, including libraries, is getting overwhelming for me, but it certainly is a good idea for libraries to be a part of it all and obviously has its good uses, like posting book reviews and inviting others to comment.

#17 Evanston Wiki

I added something to the wiki under food and relax. The thing I like about it is that it's anonymous!

#13 Tagging and Delicious

I watched all three videos on Delicious but still find it difficult to use. The concept sounds extremely useful for students and researchers, though. If I were a student, I would definitely want to learn how to use it so I could tag all the articles I need and be able to find them quickly.

Thing #11 LibraryThing

I registered and put 5 books in my list. It sounds like it could be a fun and useful site, for finding books of interest, if I knew more about how to manage and use it.
